This web page contains information about the Mini-HEP School for the Land O' Lakes District of SPEBSQSA, coordinated by John Plazek (jplazek@execpc.com).

HEP stands for Harmony Education Program. It's a great way to immerse yourself in your hobby, barbershop harmony, at a very reasonable cost and relatively close to home. Read on for a detailed description of the classes offered in this weekend. At the end of this page there is an order form that you can print out and mail in.

CHOOSE TWO (2) -- 4 Hour Classes

YOUNG MEN IN HARMONY CLASS
This is what we will cover:... "What is YMIH -- What it is not!", "What Resource materials are available," "Getting started," "Chapter Resources," "Are you right for the job?", and "Success stories to help you with your schools." If you are the YMIH chairman for your chapter, you will want to attend this class!
BARBERSHOP POTPOURRI
"We need to balance that chord!" "The bari is on the root!" "That's a Chinese 7th!" These and other statements pop out of directors' or coaches' mouths and, too often, fall on unknowing ears. Want to correct that? This is the course to take. Learn something about the theory behind barbershop and why and how chords "ring!"
SING A STACK-A-SONGS
Read through a stack of recently published songs so that you can hear what they sound like and be able to judge for yourself as to whether or not you'd like to sing them in your chorus or quartet.
VOCAL PRODUCTION --
A course covering basic support techniques, tone placement and support, relaxation of the singing mechanism, tone quality and correct vowel formation. A must for novice and veteran alike.
BEGINNING CHORUS DIRECTING --
A course for the Assistant directors and music team members that want to learn or improve their skills with hands on training.
ADVANCED CHORUS DIRECTING SEMINAR --
A course for the front line director. Dealing with retention, motivation, mutual problems in large and small choruses, principles of good directing, plus a chance to direct the class with valuable input about your directing style.
THE INNER GAME OF MUSIC --
This class will teach you an approach to singing that helps the singer perform to one's potential. Techniques to self evaluate and fix problems within your own performance are demonstrated and discussed. A great class for directors too. It is based on the workbook developed by Larry Ajer and Dr. Greg Lyne that is available from the Society.
SIGHT SINGING / SIGHT READING --
This class is designed to teach you how to sight sing and sight read the spots right off the paper! If you can use a little help... sign up for this class.
WOODSHEDDING WORKSHOP --
This is your chance to woodshed ALL weekend long... experienced or novice, if you have an "ear" this is for you!
QUARTET COACHING -- "The Ritz", Jim Bagby, Bruce Odell, Ron Rank and more!
ALL levels of experience are welcome from novice to seasoned veteran. Please bring your uniform for the Saturday Night Show if you want to sing.

(NOTE: Limited to the First 10 Quartets, Register Early!)

CHORUS COACHING -- "The Ritz", Jim Bagby, Bruce Odell, Ron Rank and more!
This is an excellent opportunity for your chorus to receive help from some of the best coaches in our Society. If your needs are visual or vocal, these people can help! In addition, all chorus members choose one (1) 4 hour class. Quartets in your chorus can be coached for the opposite 4 hour class.

(NOTE: Limited to the First 4 Choruses, Register Early!)

Watch the "Pitch Piper" & the "LOL Web Page" for Up-Dates!

All of this for only $99.00! (EARLY REGISTRATION BEFORE FEBRUARY 28, 2003)
