LOL Barbershoppers to sing for Minnesota Twins Game

Wednesday, May 12, 2004

The Minnesota Twins have invited all barbershoppers to come sing the anthem at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis on Wednesday, May 12 (6:55 PM CDT).

Few people ever get the chance to sing the anthem in a major league stadium . . . much less an invitation. The Twins are doing this to fill a few extra seats, yes, but even more to strengthen ties to our community. This was the brainchild of their community relations manager, Glo Westerdahl (not the sales staff) - a barbershop fan from the Bemidji area.

Discounted tickets are $13 for upper deck seats and $20 for the lower deck - and ticket orders should be submitted by your chapter by the end of April to take part. Singers must arrive at the Metrodome by 5:30 PM on May 12 with tickets in hand to get in and prepare for a group warm-up. There may not be anyone available to hold the gate for stragglers. Family/guests may also get in at that time or come later, as long as they have their tickets, too.

We will use Val Hicks' arrangement of the Star-Spangled Banner and are working to coordinate logistics as well as possible. The goal is to give SPEBSQSA members a chance to sing at a major league ballgame (Twins vs. Seattle).

With that, we're also hoping chapters will use the opportunity to bring in new members, bring back former members and get some attention from their town paper, radio or tv stations.

Questions should go first to your chapter rep (details were sent in Feb, March & again in April). If they haven't heard from me already, please have them e-mail marketing@gnunion.com with questions and an estimate of attendees from your chapter so I can let the Twins know to look for your ticket order.

We're also considering a photo/story contest to submit on behalf of the whole group to the Pitchpiper & Harmonizer. Send inquiries to the e-mail above if interested.

We'll look forward to singing with some of you (all of you?) on May 12!
