In addition to fulfilling the request, here is what was written. The more I learn about Doug and his contributions to the music teaching profession, the more impressed I am, and the more grateful my children had an opportunity to learn from him. ************************** Dear Jon, Thank you for asking us to provide this information. I'll never forget seeing the Chippewa Falls band students tearfully and yet simply shake hands and say, "thank you," to every one of the uniformed students. It was one of the most touching tributes to the power of music I've ever witnessed. I'm not sure if you know this, but Doug served on the WSMA State Marching Band Committee for more than ten years. In that time, he took on many significant leadership roles, including researching and revising our marching band evaluation forms, and writing the field formation for more than 600 seniors for last year's 20th anniversary. He improved the marching band activity for thousands of students and fans. We will dearly miss his passion for marching band and his beloved Gold Wing motorcycle, his sense of humor, and his genuine caring nature. When Doug would call, he'd usually say, "Linda, my dear" or "Linda, my love." We will all miss him dearly. If WSMA can be of service to you at any time, please call or email us. We're here to serve. Be advised the State Music Conference takes place this week Wednesday - Saturday, so any emails received after Tuesday night won't be answered until Monday, Oct. 31.
Best wishes, |
